Ms. Susan Halkiotis has been a long time advocate for strengthening the science and technology curriculum for youngsters in grades K-12. She served as a member, Vice-Chair and Chair of the Orange County Board of Education in North Carolina for over 8 years, and has served on numerous area task forces and committees charged with improving educational opportunities for students.
She has worked with local government officials
on establishing construction standards for new schools, on long-term
planning for siting future schools, on bond referendums, and on identifying
the satellite location for the local community college. During her
leadership tenure, her board approved and funded construction of a new
middle school and high school, with particular emphasis on providing well
equipped state-of-the-art science and technology laboratories.
She is a graduate of Duke University, where she has been associated with
the Center for Neuroengineering and the Department of Neurobiology for over
10 years.
